Trailblazing Your Life Path

My response to a friend's post confessing her sense of urgency about being someone grand and important, instability not knowing what to "do" with her life, feelings of hopelessness around creating a livelihood that is a unique expression of her personality and values, fear that being herself is not good enough.....

"Thank you for voicing many of my own dreams, fears, goals, self-criticisms, and essence. Lovely lady, you are making a difference each day you choose to be your real self and not conform to societal expectations. You change worlds with your laughter and your tears.

I share this path with you, and we are walking side by side. They say you cannot connect the dots moving forward, that you can only connect them looking backward, and you just have to TRUST that your dots will somehow connect to your future, leading you on and on in the direction of your heart's greatest Vision. I honor your strength, your power, and your humility. And you don't have to be anything different than your truest reflection of what is inside, for your heart is your greatest compass. TRUST IN IT!

As far as your dream of being a housewife, there is nothing wrong and everything wonderful about caring for home, caring for family, tending the soil. I used to feel inadequate in my simplicy, because every one around me was or wanted to do BIG things, and I felt somehow less. So I convinced myself I was like them, because I too wanted to be important. But I could not fake it for long. Over time I came to accept and empower my simplicity, and came to realize that I gain energy by giving, that my creativity is naturally and happily expressed in the home, that I find great joy in cooking for others and cleaning, in providing, in nurturing.

SO, a year ago I put an ad out on craigslist offering vegetarian and vegan cooking for busy overworked parents and professionals. After doing that for over 8 months, I began going into peoples homes to cook, clean, organize, and spend time with their children for $15/hour. In two weeks I will be doing a postpartum doula training and will finish with my certification in the following months, so I can create greater abundance doing what I love, helping people, AND make double what I am making now!!! You see, you can be simple AND make a difference AND make a good livelihood for yourself!

My advice to you is this: Meditate on what brings you joy, and put it out there on craigslist for a fee. Someone will want it!
